Sanctuary Sounds (11/24/24)

Gratitude is contagious! This song doesn’t just say, “I am thankful, oh so thankful.” That would be fine. But it does something better: it invites other people to join in the thankfulness! Pringles said, “Once you pop, you just can’t stop.” One crunchy chip leads to another. Gratitude is often the same: one appreciative, thoughtful comment leads to more.

Parent/Grandparent Idea: Make a point to tell your child many specific things that you are thankful for. Gratitude is so unusual in our culture that unforced thankfulness can make a big impact in your home.

In this Psalm, the writer talks to his own soul, saying:

Return, O my soul, to your rest;
    for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
For you have delivered my soul from death,
    my eyes from tears,
    my feet from stumbling;
I will walk before the Lord
    in the land of the living.

This is so important for us to see. All of us need to remind ourselves of the truth: the Lord has dealt bountifully with us. If we are his people, we are chosen and loved by God. We will live forever with Him. He will never leave us.

That doesn’t mean that there are no tears. That doesn’t mean we never stumble. But it does mean that we will always walk before the Lord. He has dealt bountifully with us.

Parent/Grandparent Note: This Thanksgiving, make a point to help your child express thankfulness to God. That is one way to praise Him well.
