Sanctuary Sounds (10/27/24)

These articles are meant to help us carry our Sunday-worship with us throughout the week. To find out more about this goal, read this.

Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Read that again. Notice that it does not say, “If you love me, you MUST keep my commandments.” This is not a rule. This is not a law. This is a promise. And that is so much better. Jesus says that, for those who love Him, He will cause them to keep his commands. He will bring about obedience.

How does He do this? Jesus said that He would “ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.” The Holy Spirit works in God’s people to help them. If you are struggling to obey, remember that you have a Helper. And that Helper never fails.

Parent/Grandparent Note: Share with your child one area where you need the Holy Spirit’s help to obey. Maybe it’s with patience, temper, strength, or selfishness. It is incredibly powerful for your child to know that you are relying on God for help. Then ask your child to pray for you or with you. Invite them to intercede with the Father for you.

This song ends with a beautiful, necessary prayer. The singers ask for strength to endure based on the strong, sure hope that comes from Christ alone.

There are many things in life that are unsure. Much around us is shaky. But our redemption is guaranteed. Our redemption is sure. Why? Because our Redeemer is sure.

Jesus never fails. Jesus never fails his people. Jesus never fails us.

Parent/Grandparent Idea: With your child, write down a list of things that are unsure. This could vary based on the age of the child, but some ideas include: Will it rain tomorrow? Will I get a good grade on my project? Will grammy make it to our house before lunch? Then write a list of things that are sure in Christ: Jesus will return. Jesus will make wrong things right. Jesus will be with me no matter what.
