Sanctuary Sounds (10/6/24)

These articles are meant to help us carry our Sunday-worship with us throughout the week. To find out more about this goal, read this.

In the Children’s Message, I said that reading and hearing the Bible is like lifting weights — it can make you strong. God is “able to strengthen you” by “the preaching of Jesus Christ” which has “been made known to all nations” through the Bible.

But we have to be in the Bible in order for the Spirit to use it to build us up. Just like an unused gym membership does no good, an unopened Bible won’t make us strong.

Parent/Grandparent Note: The Bible is a big, old, complex book. It will, at times, be a weight too heavy for a child to lift on their own. Thankfully, God has given your child/grandchild a trainer: you. You can read to them, connect them with children’s Bibles, answer questions, and help in other ways. What is one way you can help the little people God has entrusted to you to get into the Word this week?

Pastor Kevin used the end of Romans as a diving board to jump back into Romans. He walked us down the Roman Road so that we would not leave the text without a clear gospel. If you want to review the Roman Road through text or video, check out this link.

This song is rich with scriptural connections. Here are just a couple that I hope you will explore:
  • “Who breaks the power of sin and darkness?… the King of Glory.” (Rom 6:10)
  • “Who makes the orphan a son or daughter?” (Ps 68:5)
  • “Who rules the nations with truth and justice? (Ps 9:7-10)
  • “This is amazing grace… that you would take my place.” (2 Cor 5:21)
  • “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.” (Rev 5:12)

Parent/Grandparent Idea: Listen to this song each day this week and read one of the passages listed above. That would be a simple, relatable family devotion.
